Does your palate ‘shouts’ for the super-thin crust pizzas? Remember to check out the ones at Pizza Express, just in case you haven’t yet! This boutique restaurant chain serves tasty freshly hand-crafted Italian pizzas. There’s also the ubiquitous pastas, salads and delicious desserts. Peter Boizot, an Englishman founded the food chain in 1965, after being amazed by authentic quality pizzas during a trip to Italy.

Pizza Express now has over 400 restaurants in UK alone and various others in Indonesia, UAE, Hong Kong, China, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Cyprus, Oman and Gibraltar. There are presently 9 outlets in India. The chain is growing fast and plans expanding in Mumbai,  Delhi and other parts of India.

The pizza giant has outlets in Vasant Kunj, Noida/NCR and Nehru Place in Delhi. I had been planning to visit one of these ever since the launch in 2016 and finally got to visit the outlet that is on 3rd Floor, DLF Mall of India, Sector 18, Noida. Opening hours are 11:30am to 11:30pm. Incredibly beautiful interiors and the open kitchen made the visit even worthwhile. One can watch the chef tossing the handspun pizzas into the oven and pulling out fresh breads. The lighting is dim and classy and the restaurant has a huge seating capacity of 150. This is good place to head to if you are in the mood for authentic thin crust pizzas better than the thin crusts available elsewhere. The staff is courteous and attentive but the service time took too long for my hunger’s patience.

The photographs accompanying the description of dishes on the menu seem quite appetizing only to reveal even more gorgeous dishes in real. Pizza Express has a large pizza repertoire to choose from, it has two categories- classic pizzas and Romana pizzas. The ones I savored are: Apollo pizza with tandoori chicken, mozzarella, green chillies, yellow peppers & coriander, Funghi di Bosco pizza with mushroom, mozzarella, garlic & rosemary toppings, Giardiniera pizza loaded with leeks, cherry tomatoes, red peppers, garlic oil, artichokes, olives, mozzarella on a tomato & pesto base. Antipesto Verde is an assorted vegetarian platter with roasted tomatoes, rocket and peppadew, fresh buffalo mozzarella with basil pesto and dough sticks that serves as a great starter. They offer great range of pastas such as spaghetti, farfalle, risotto, penne pasta, lasagna and much more to confuse you what to order. Much talked about dessert at Pizza Express is the Tiramisu, is a traditional Italian dessert of coffee, cocoa, cream, wine and sponge fingers.

You may fall for the name ‘Pizza  Express’ thinking that it is doorstep deliveries will be equally great, but the disappointing  part is that going by the present trend in India’s metros, they have third party arrangements with companies like ‘Swiggy’ for delivery that take their own sweet time and that is not fair.
